Penarth Cemetery was first opened 1903, after Penarth Urban District Council purchased the land. The site was originally set on 5 acres, but further adjoining land was purchased in 1923 to extend the cemetery. There have been more than 11,000 burials since the cemetery was first opened, and it continues to offer full interment until the space is completely full.
The cemetery contains a single Chapel, which is currently under renovation. Penarth Cemetery is home to the memorials of 13 casualties from World War 1 and 39 from World War 2.
